The Trouble with TQ 2018-2019 16-Month Calendar

“The Trouble with TQ” is a spiritual journey.  The film is a milestone, a marker on a path to a larger picture.  I keep asking myself, “How do I tell the story of Rev. Thomas J. Quinlan (“TQ”), who made the mass more relevant to Catholics then challenged them to be more relevant to the world?”

After making the film I realized the “story” is making TQ’s thoughts on the Principle of Adaptation available to an audience beyond those who knew TQ.  The ministries started under TQ that continue today is testament to the power of connecting people to the gospel through liturgy, then in turn connecting those people to serving the community.

The New Parables is an initiative to preserve, examine and share TQ’s strategies for adapting liturgy, across a variety of platforms.  The 2018 The Trouble with TQ calendar represents a transition, as this is the last year we’ll be doing the Calendar.  I’m going to take some time off and come back with what I will describe as a “Calendar Project” called “TQ 2020.”  Look for that.

It’s been a combined effort, Graphic Artist Roberta Hoffman is the linchpin to the entire operation.  Her talents as an artist as well as her eye give the entire calendar line its own visual style.  Many people see the calendar, but never realize the logos, all of the print and poster work, right down to the business cards, were designed by Roberta Hoffman and I thank her for her gifts and friendship.

Graphic artists can do a lot, and when you have a fantastic photographer like Sean Scheidt, you are giving the graphic artist the absolute best images to work with.  From the Docs In Progress screening to Baltimore and DC premieres, Sean puts me and my surroundings in context.  He is also a good friend and a big supporter.
